Home for the first week
1. Write all the swars, i.e. the vowels, 12 of them
2. Write the numbers 1-30. The numerals in Devanagiri were covered in the class.
3. Memorize the body parts; and colors such as laal, hara, peela, narangee, baingani, safed, kaala, gulaabee, neelaa, bhoora(brown) etc.
4. Sounds of swar (vowel) and words with the beginning sound of swar like Amar, Anaar, Aam, Imlee etc.
5. Children were taught how to write their name. They should know the meaning of their name and would be asked to write and know the meaning of their names. So, it should be like Mere naam kaa matlab hai beautiful. In other words the sentence has to be in hindi but the literal translation of the name or explanation can be in English.
6. There would be a short quiz/ tournament. The class will be divided in three groups.

Homework for the 2nd week, 9/16/07
Write and learn the proper sounds of all the vyanjan - in Devanagiri, please. The sound can be written in Roman. So, first the vyanjan in Devanagiri followed by the sound( in english letters, like ph, k, sh, shh etc.)
Submit the homework with your name and date in hindi i.e. Devanagiri and not Roman( English).

Homework for thw 3rd Week, 22 Sept 2007
1. Write the Vyanjan  from  (k -  h, kSh, tr, GY) क - ह, क्ष, त्र, ज्ञ
Write in the group of five like
    क ख ग घ ङ
    च छ ज झ ञ
    and so on.
This aids in memorization as all the letters of the  Devanagiri script are grouped  into fives  based on what part of the mouth are used.
2. Memorize all  the Vyanjan . This is to make the kids familiar with the letters and their sounds.
3. Bonus- meaning of sycophant, thug. Want the meaning in hindi, one word please.

cultural lesson
Dear parents,
 
In cultural class, we learnt about values, respect and how they shape a person good/bad ,kind/unkind etc. I asked kids to write 5 sentences about the values they learnt at home like, greeting elders etc.
 
Our thanks to Amith's father for helping us in the class today. Next week's parent volunteeris Anika's Parents.

1. Write all the vyanjan 5 times. क - ह
 
2.  Trace इ,  ई in the workbook.
Some students did not do अ आ last time.They would need to do अ आ as well in addition to इ ई.
 
3. Write five hindi words in Devanagiri and its meaning in Hindi/ Devanagiri. माताजी, पीताजी, पानी कमल, हाथ etc.. Parents may help the students and make sure that the homework is complete.

Homework/cultural lesson
Dear parents,
 
Manju didn't come to the class today. So, we had a sub for Manju. Shivani helped us with hindi lesson and she did a excellent job and ofcourse, I helped her as well. We reviewed all the letters and gave 2 letter word dictation to the class. Kids did a great job and kids were proud of their work and we all should be as well.
 
For cultural lesson we learnt about invaders, like how India was invaded by so many people and how we lost all the riches of the country. If you have time you can discuss with your child in detail at home.
 
 
For homework, we asked kids to write K, KHA,G,GHA letter sheets from the binder and also write the words on the 2nd page from their text books. We did this in the class today, and they can write three more times on the second line. Words were, KHATH, GHAR,GHAT,JEl .
 
 
Our class volunteer was Anikas' mom Gayatri. Thank you Gayatriji very much for all the help.
 
Our next week parent voulnteers are Amith's Parents.

Write vyanjan by blending vyanjan and the swar इ
  e.g. कि खि गि …… हि क्ष/क्षि land so on.
Please do the letters ड़ and च pages of अक्षर निधि सुलेख माला which is the photocopied binder for the penmanship. Those of you who have finished the book, please write two words beginning with the letter च and ड and their meaning. If the student is comfortable, use the word in a sentence. This has to be written in Devanagiri script and in Hindi.
Please review the words done in the class, some of them were verbs.

Test next Sunday :)
The test would be done on the following words, which were covered in the class today. The words were translated, too. So, a word would be given in English or Hindi and the student would have to translate the word into the other language. Study the words, ask your parents to help you learn memorize...

Here are the words which we discussed in the class and I would like the kids to go through it.

The homework is to go through the words, memorise it. Visualise the words, say them, use action to remember. Use them every day, maybe once atleast, in anyway you can.

In addition to that, pick five words, Write five sentence using these words. 
 
Please write neat, use separate lines for the sentences. Skip lines between each sentence( some of you squeeze them which makes it hard to read), remember the punctuation, double check for the spelling. Parents can read to make sure that it is.
 
One hint, when you compose any sentence, please think in an Indian language rather then English. Sentence formulation is quite similar in most Indian languages.
 
There would be a quizz on those words in next class.
